Colmore Plaza is a stunning 14-storey, landmark building located in the prime business district of the city of Birmingham. The site originally housed the former Birmingham Post & Mail Tower and, on completion in 2006, was named as the most valuable piece of real estate in Birmingham.
Kent Stainless worked closely with Aedas and Bowmer & Kirkland to supply a range of stainless steel products including stainless steel drainage channel and heelmesh grating, stainless steel seats and cycle stands. The stainless steel channel was designed was designed to take 10.0 ltrs of water per second from the surrounding areas and run off from the surrounding buildings. This was designed using Kent Stainless flow rate calculating software.
Aedas were keen to incorporate short stay seats in the open external areas. Kent Stainless provided the perfect solution with individual seats, curved and mounted on a continious rail. The electropolished finish will ensure the seats maintain their lustre with minimal maintenance.
Aedas were also keen to avoid using standard designs for the cycle stands. Although a relatively small part of the overall project, the cycle stands play a vital role as in keeping with the design of the overall buildings they are located at the main entrance. With this in mind Aedas asked Kent Stainless to come up with a unique design without escalating the budget! The result is the Kent "Birmingham Cycle Stand" which is manufactured from stainless steel box section and tube and comes complete with a laser etched "ink" filled cycle symbol.
